Adoption in Our Lives

Our Family

We have been blessed to have gone through the adoption process once before with our son. He has been a joy in our life, watching him grow and learn. We love to expose him to new ideas and seeing the wonder on his face as he works out what he saw.

We take him to the zoo and festivals where he is excited to see all kinds of rides and animals. He dreams of the day when he is bigger and can ride the roller coaster with mom, or hike in the woods with dad.

He loves the parks, where he can see water, and watch fish and turtles. He loves to sit on the porch and watch the hummingbirds feed or take an apple to the neighbors horses.

He is very musical - loving to sing and dance any chance he can get, it has been the best way to teach him. He learns all of the classics, surprising everyone.

He is excited to become a brother, always asking if he can have a brother or sister. He looks forward to showing them the things he's learned along the way.

Our Favorite Vacation Spot

Enjoying the Splash Zone on the Cruise Ship

Our favorite family vacation is a cruise. We love the adventure and being out at sea. And best of all, there is something for everyone, while we all stay close together.

We had the opportunity this to take our son on his first cruise - and loved showing him the "Big Boat". He was thrilled about getting on the boat and exploring someplace new. He talked constantly of visiting the beach and building a sand castle.

We love visiting new places, and seeing the sights. Setting foot on an island and listening to the ocean go by. Life on board the ship gives us a chance to relax as a family, with everyone having the opportunity to do what they want, explore an area, catch shows, or just relax in the sun.

Bringing our son along was great, catching the music shows. When he heard songs that he recognized he was the life of the party, dancing in the aisles and giving everyone a good time.

Qualities We Love, Admire & Respect in Each Other

Rob About Wendy: Wendy is very outgoing and passionate. She is very supportive of the tasks and goals that I have, and I know that she would be just as supportive of a child. She is yin to my yang, and together we keep a blessed balance in our love for each other and our family. I love Wendy’s independence. She will often take on a chore or task herself if she believe she can do it, rather than waiting for me to come home from work, or get free time. She is also not afraid to ask for help if she believes that she needs it. Wendy has never failed to be supportive of any project or task that I’ve wanted to do, even if it seems to be larger than life. She always provides encouragement and a strong foundation for me to rely on.

Wendy About Rob: After 16 years of marriage, Rob never ceases to amaze me with his love for me. There has never been a day that goes by that he doesn’t go out of his way to let me know he loves me. Even if it’s a text in the middle of the day just to say he loves me it means the world to me. He’s funny and makes me laugh, some days it’s just the thought of him that makes me smile. He is strong yet gentle and caring when he needs to be. His love to learn new things amazes me. He is an eternal learner. It is these traits that I look forward to him passing onto a child.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We live in outside of a small town in Ohio. We have several acres that children can run and play and 3 bedrooms. We love to host family get-togethers in our basement where we can have space, or sit next to the fire place.

Several small fairs and festivals are held nearby and we have easy access to Columbus. Our area has many parks, swimming pools, and bike trails. We have easy access to day cares and several families in the area have gone through adoption as well giving resources for any advice or even play dates.

Our street is a quiet street. We have a hill for sledding, wildlife to watch and lots of room to run and play and on a clear night you can see the stars and planets. Several nearby campgrounds provide opportunity and we are not far from canoe liveries and the Columbus Zoo.

Our Extended Families

Grandpa Reading to Sam

We both come from large families full of life and children, where family get togethers are an opportunity for the child to connect with an extended caring family welcoming the child and providing a variety of new perspectives.

Sam & Aunt Charity

Our families have traditions where every major holiday, the extended family comes together. All brothers and sisters, cousins and grandparents get together to celebrate being a family. A large meal is prepared, and everyone happily visits with each other, catching up with members who may have missed the last gathering. After a time, the family begins to break out cards, and numerous card games ensue, with members drifting from game to game, visiting with aunts and uncles and other cousins. Smaller children visit, play, watch movies, or learn to play games as they desire.

Since adopting our son, we have created our own family traditions. We seek to visit any fairs or festivals we can to give our son new experiences and to let him explore the world around him. We love to see the wonder on his face, or watch his reactions when he hears new music, or the wonder while he tries to figure out how the rides work.

From Us to You

We want to thank you for taking the opportunity to read our letter. We understand that this is a difficult time for you. We admire your strength and conviction in considering adoption for your child.

We are Rob and Wendy and have been married for over 16 years. We believe that that stability has provided us a solid foundation to provide a caring and nurturing environment for your child. Our love for one another has not diminished over this time, and we still look at each other as if we are newlyweds. From little notes of love, to surprise flowers, a special meal, or just cuddling on the couch, we enjoy sharing time and love with each other.

Rob is from an extended large farming family. He has nine aunts and uncles who were all instrumental in his childhood development. He is the oldest from his parents’ original marriage, and has one sister, one half-sister, three stepsisters, and a stepbrother. In addition, many of his cousins have children of their own. Holidays in his family are an opportunity for the entire family to get together, visit and eat good food, and socialize over card games, board games, or general discussions. Every major holiday, from New Year’s, to July 4, to Thanksgiving, and Christmas is an opportunity for the family to reconnect and grow. Every family get together was an opportunity for children to play together, rain or shine, summer or winter. From bobsledding down the hill to camping out in the yard.

Wendy is the youngest of three girls. Her oldest sister had three children of her own, two boys and a girl, and her middle sister is raising two stepdaughters. Her family loves to get together during the holidays as well, with an opportunity to shower gifts and attention on children and provide chances to play and socialize. Her city roots allowed her to grow up with many neighborhood kids, and enjoyed social interaction and playing in the park, whether it was a baseball game, or sledding down the public hill.

Children our very important to both sides of our families. It is that importance, and our strong support network both as parents, and extended with aunts/uncles and grandparents, that we believe provide us the best opportunity to provide a caring and supportive home to your child. We see this importance in the eyes of our parents with our son. All three sets of grandparents have instantly fallen in love with him and seek to spoil him to their hearts content!

We believe that the most important thing for a parent is to provide a nurturing and supportive environment that provides new experiences and learning for children. We believe that this environment, combined with unconditional love and support allows the child to explore their world and their dreams.

As your child grows in our loving family, we would love to share letters and pictures of their development. As your child grows, we would continue to share the story of the adoption with them, letting them know that they are fortunate to be loved by many people.

Raising a child is a lifelong commitment. We would be honored and blessed to raise your child in a loving family, and to create a lifetime of memories for them. We would like to thank you again for reading our letter and taking the opportunity to get to know us a little better. We pray for your strength as you move to make this decision.
