Fee Estimates
Adoption costs can vary depending on the unique details of your situation. Fees are subject to change. For the most accurate and up-to-date fees, schedule a consultation with an Adoptive Family Coordinator today.
In some situations, American Adoptions of Texas may choose to waive fees. This could happen for several reasons, such as aiding in the finalization of a hard-to-place case or other special considerations. Because of this, it is possible for any fee category to be as low as $0 depending on the circumstances.
For any journey, you can plan for expenses in the following categories and ranges:
Pre-Application
Every American Adoptions family begins with a pre-application. The standard Pre-Application fee is $995, but it can be waived in special situations.
Home Study
The home study is one of the first things a potential adoptive family will complete. Home studies can cost anywhere from $900 to $3,000.
Activation
A family becoming “active” means they are ready to be shown to prospective birth parents. This is an exciting step in the adoption process. The Activation fee can be $5,500, but this fee can also be waived in some situations.
Administration + Support and Education
Our agency staff handles all paperwork, administration and other important clerical work to give your adoption the best chance of success. This allows you to focus on what matters most – cultivating a meaningful relationship with the birth parents and preparing to start your family. The Administration fee can be $15,000 but can also be waived in special situations.
Additionally, our team of dedicated Adoptive Family Specialists and Birth Parent Specialists will be there for you and the birth parents throughout the entire process. This ongoing support and education is pivotal. It is rare for agencies to provide a dedicated specialist to birth parents, but we believe it is the best and most ethical way to conduct adoptions. The Support and Education fee can be $15,000 but can also be waived in special situations.
Limited Risk
Adoption disruptions do happen. While statistical data in domestic infant adoption is difficult to verify, some sources indicate as many as 25% of all potential adoptions do disrupt. Our Limited Risk fee ensures that when this happens, your finances are protected. Virtually no other agencies offer this level of protection. The Limited Risk fee can be $10,000 but can also be waived in special situations.
Legal Counsel
Legal counsel is needed for both the birth parents and adoptive parents. It is important for each to have individual representation to ensure the adoption is completed in the most ethical and legally sound way. In total, legal fees can range from $5,000 to $10,000+, but can also be waived in special situations.
Birth Parent Living Expenses
Birth parents in Texas are allowed to receive certain living, medical, legal and other financial assistance throughout the adoption process. The amount depends on the unique details of each situation. Birth parent living expenses can range from $0 up to $25,000.
Medical
Adoptive families are responsible for the medical costs of the birth parent and child during the adoption process. Medical costs can vary depending on the situation, insurance coverage, birth details (such as a needed NICU stay) and more. Families can plan for medical costs ranging from $1,000 up to $25,000+.
