Our Adventures

Niagara Falls

We have always loved traveling and try to take vacations to go to a place we have never been at least once a year. For our honeymoon in 2018, we traveled to Hawaii and explored both the islands of Maui and Kauai. We had the most amazing seafood, sushi, and even went to a pig roast luau on the beach!

Since we have been married, we have tried taking a vacation on our anniversary each year. Our first anniversary was spent in New Orleans, where we witnessed the opening of a brand new distillery/museum and ate our weight in Cajun food. Our second anniversary was during COVID, so we did a staycation, loaded up with snacks, and played through some video games together. We did a road trip through New England for our third anniversary, hitting Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania and New York. This last year, our anniversary trip was a road trip through Ontario, Canada - we spent time in Ottawa seeing nature and visiting a dark sky park, Toronto doing sightseeing, and the Niagara Falls relaxing.

We plan to try to take as many family trips as possible once we grow as a family so that the child can experience as much of the country/world as possible!

Our Leisure Time

Teaching Our Niece & Nephew a New Board Game

We love to cook our own meals and experiment with new recipes. When we were dating, we did a challenge where we tried cooking a new Pinterest recipe every week for an entire year - and we completed it! We like doing baking challenges with our friend group, where some of us set ridiculous parameters (like creating a cupcake that looks like spaghetti and meatballs) and other people in the group have to try to bake those things Nailed-It style. Adam loves grilling so when it is warm outside, he is constantly in the backyard trying new ways to grill food.

We also love to watch movies both at home and in the theaters. There is a movie theater a couple miles away from us that we will go see anything and everything at. Movie dates with some theater candy and an extra large popcorn is one of our favorite ways to go out and spend time together.

Video games and board games are also a big hobby for us. When we moved in together, we merged our board game collections into one and it takes up a whole wall in our basement. Adam enjoys playing video games on his computer and Katie enjoys playing video games on her Playstation as well. We enjoy playing games together, but also have our own separate gaming nights too.

Our Family Traditions

Katie's family has had a tradition for her mom's birthday her entire life where the entire family goes to a city in Michigan called Frankenmuth for a day trip. Frankenmuth has the largest Christmas store in the world, and it is a tradition for each family member to pick out exactly one Christmas ornament to add to their tree every year. In 2020 during COVID, we were unable to travel for the first time in Katie's life - so Katie and her brother created a fake "Frankenmuth" in her brother's driveway and recreated the food, shops, and even had a make-your-own-Christmas-ornament station for the family.

Adam's family has had a tradition to visit his extended family in Pennsylvania every year. Adam's mom grew up in Pennsylvania and moved to Michigan when she met Adam's dad. Adam's mom travels to Pennsylvania between two and four times a year, but the family tries to visit between Christmas and New Years. Adam's aunts and uncles live right by the Hershey Chocolate factory and theme park and he grew up with that as a family tradition. Adam's grandmother used to make homemade fudge for all the grandkids' birthdays, and after she passed away one of Adam's aunts has kept that tradition alive.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We have a single story three bedroom home with a fully finished basement. Our backyard is large and fenced in with a bonfire pit and a barbecue grill - plenty of space for a play structure or two! Adam's office is downstairs and Katie's office is upstairs so there is plenty of room to spread out.

Our home is right across the street from a middle school - so it is an excellent area full of children and families. We live two blocks away from a high school and one block away from an elementary school with a playground as well. We live in a suburb approximately twenty miles outside of Detroit so there is plenty to do and experience (zoos, museums, etc.), as well as a beautiful lake about a mile away. There is a park on the lake that constantly has family picnic outings, concerts in the park, food truck festivals and fireworks too! There is also a large city pool and splash pad about a mile away that is open during the summer months.

We have multiple friends who reside in our city that have children (with another on the way) that are very thrilled to be able to grow up and play with this child.

Our Extended Families

Board Games with Our Niece

Both of our families live within the state of Michigan and both sets of parents are less than five miles away. We both grew up with brothers and have multiple nieces and nephews that we are an active aunt and uncle for. This child would be Katie's niece and nephew's first cousin and they are beyond excited for it! Katie's family loves getting together to play board games or euchre (Michigan card game). Adam's family loves getting together at different restaurants to try different food experiences.

Katie's Family

Our families love getting together for Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, and celebrating birthdays. We also take occasional trips to different cities in Michigan with Katie's family and trips to Pennsylvania to visit Adam's extended family.

Adoption has played a large role in our extended family and friend group. We have multiple aunts that have opened their homes to adoption and foster care and we have several adopted cousins and extended cousins. Our family is very excited that we have chosen this route to grow our family and will be an amazing support system.

From Us to You

We can only imagine what it must be like to sift through pages upon pages of families wondering what to do next. If you've made it this far scrolling on our page, thank you for considering us and we sincerely appreciate you. Whoever you are and whatever your reasons for scrolling through these profiles, know that you are incredibly brave, strong, and selfless. What you're doing or considering is one of the most incredible decisions any person could be asked to make. Whether or not we get a chance to speak or meet, know that we admire you and you are an amazing person for putting others first.

Life has been very good to us in recent years and we are ecstatic to be in a position where we can share that fortune with someone else. We have been married for over four years, and we have wonderful friends and families that can support us and a child through anything and everything. Our city is one of the safest in the state, and we live in one of the best ranked school districts as well. Our home is within walking distance of what would be the child's future elementary school, middle school, and high school, and we have several parks and playgrounds very close by. Most importantly, we have a safe, warm, accepting and unconditionally loving home to offer to any child.

We have a lot of nerdy interests, so expect this child to be surrounded by books, movies, board games, video games, artsy hobbies, puzzles, music and more. If you have some favorites that you would like the child exposed to, we'd be more than happy to integrate that into their upbringing. Adam works in technology and Katie works in science, so we are both big supporters of integrating STEM into the child's education and hobbies. However, we are also very open minded and will support whatever career path or interests that the child chooses for themselves. We also love cooking and exploring new foods, so if you have any recipes or foods that you love and want us to integrate into the child's life we would be thrilled to do that.

We look forward to working together with you through this process, if you choose to give us a chance. Nobody should ever have to go through something like this alone, so if we get a chance to speak, know that you will have committed allies on your side for every second through this process. Technology has made amazing advances in recent years and people have the ability to connect in so many ways now, so whether you are near or far, we can be there for you if you need us. Depending on your comfort level or what you might feel you need after the birth, we have no problem sharing information and/or photos of the child with you post-birth and maintaining communications as we both transition into the new phase of our lives.

Pictures and words never do enough justice - If you have any questions or want to know more about us, please reach out and ask. We would love to be able to meet you and join forces with you so that we can help each other get through this craziness and enrich each other's lives for the better. Thanks again for reading, and for what you would be doing for us or some lucky family out there.
